From March 2014 drug companies, insurance companies and god-knows who else will be able to buy patient information gathered by the NHS, including mental health conditions and diseases such as cancer, as well as smoking and drinking habits.
Obviously private companies will only be interested in this if it is profitable to them so what we are talking about is drugs companies mining our health data as cut-price research and insurance companies finding new and exciting ways to boost premiums or deny payments to people considered to be responsible for their own illness.
The Labour Party are not making too much noise about this because under their gene-bank plan much the same transfer of public health information to private hands was going on.
This is once again the rich profiteering from illness and the desperation of people to reduce the suffering and prolong the lives of their loved ones.
